Doctors: You can not get the flu from the flu shot

You should get a flu shot that is not only for your own health, but for the health of others.

Until that universal vaccine comes out, Fauci says you need to get a flu shot every year. Doctors can report statistics and offer a broad glimpse at how bad the flu season is - and a year ago those warnings came swift, with cases piling up rapidly - but it's hard to nail down an exact number.

The flu vaccine should be mandatory for healthcare professionals who work in high-risk areas, such as intensive care, cancer wards and emergency departments.

Roughly two weeks, Lin said. During this time, your body is developing antibodies to protect you against the virus.

The flu season which peaked in around the start of February of this year took approximately 80,000 lives.

That said, Lin noted receiving the vaccine anytime during the season is "better late than never". The shot protects from the flu and helps to prevent the spread of the flu.

If your child can not have a vaccine, the flu mist is back this year. "It could change a bit, but right now, it looks like they are well matched".

What is a common misconception about the flu vaccine?

That means there is a window for people to get sick with the flu. More than half of the people who responded believed that the flu shot caused the flu. The shot is either made with a virus that has been "killed" or "inactivated" or made with "only a single gene from a flu virus (as opposed to the full virus) in order to produce an immune response without causing infection", the CDC says.

It's hard to predict how severe the flu season will be this year, Lin said.

Committee chairman Norman Lamb said: 'The flu season is upon us again and it's outrageous that so few social care staff appear to be vaccinated.
