InMobi acquires Sprint’s mobile ad business, Pinsight Media

InMobi, the India-based mobile marketing and ad technology firm, has bought U.S. telco Sprint's mobile data and ad subsidiary, Pinsight Media, in an all-stock deal for an undisclosed amount.

The fourth-largest USA wireless carrier by subscribers is selling the company called Pinsight Media as it awaits regulatory approval to sell itself to larger rival T-Mobile US Inc (TMUS.O).

"With this acquisition we are creating the most powerful advertising and marketing platform for the USA market by unifying online and offline behavior and providing CMOs with a way to reach and engage them", said Naveen Tewari, founder and CEO of InMobi, in a statement. InMobi says that this is a part of the partnership with USA telco Sprint in regards to devices, data, media and marketing.

Pinsight Media was founded in 2012 to help marketers understand their customers with data-led audience insights including location data.

The Pinsight sale to InMobi comes as Sprint, the fourth-largest USA wireless carrier by subscribers, awaits regulatory approval on its takeover by rival T-Mobile US.

It is worth noting that InMobi gets 55% of its annual revenue from the USA market and the latest acquisition is likely to further help the company in getting deeper footprint in the American market. Post acquisition, InMobi will add around 100 people employed by Pinsight Media at Kansas City. "This partnership provides Sprint with an innovative partner for driving our marketing success".

The Pinsight Media acquisition also brings deep insights and a cutting-edge data management platform to the InMobi Marketing Cloud, providing enterprise marketers with a bridge between user behavior and an AI-powered marketing strategy.

Sprint's chief digital officer stressed that it would continue to work with Pinsight following the sale to InMobi.

"With this acquisition we are creating the most powerful advertising and marketing platform for the USA market by unifying online and offline behavior, and providing CMOs with a way to reach and engage consumers, while remaining compliant with privacy and data protection requirements", said Naveen Tewari, Founder and CEO at InMobi. The firm also has offices in New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. In June, InMobi had partnered with Microsoft.
