Paris auction house ‘would love it’ if Banksy pulls another stunt

Visitors view Banksy's artwork tilted Love is in the Bin previously known as—Girl with Balloon at Sotheby's

Viewers are then shown a clip where an artwork was completely shredded, leaving the frame wholly empty.

In a new video, posted to his YouTube page, Banksy revealed what was actually meant to happen to the painting. Now, Banksy has released a behind-the-scenes video, showing exactly how the shredding should have worked.

The British artist has done more to cultivate his mystique in the two weeks since a print of one of his best known works, "Girl With a Balloon", slid half way through a shredder embedded in its frame moments after it was sold at Sotheby's in London.

The framed, stencil spray painting shows a girl reaching towards a heart-shaped balloon.

The glitch makes the new form of "Girl with Balloon" much easier to display on walls, and the art experts say the artwork, now renamed "Love Is in the Bin", is now worth significantly more than the $1.4 million paid by the victor (who has chose to keep the piece).

The video is titled, "Shred the Love, the Director's cut".

The anonymous artist also confirmed the auction house had not been let into the secret, posting on Instagram: "Some people think it didn't really shred".

The self-destruction of Banksy's £1 million painting immediately after being purchased at an auction has sent the internet into a flurry of debate as people try to search for the real meaning behind this dramatic stunt.

The auction and partial shredding are shown, as is the work being taken off the wall at Sotheby's and carried out of the room.

Alex Branczik, head of contemporary art for Europe at the auction house, said the piece was "the first artwork in history to have been created live during an auction".

Cropping pictures that the unknown woman-a collector bought for 1 000 042 GBP, renamed Love Is In The Bin ("Love in a trash can").
