Messi suffers arm injury in Barcelona's win over Sevilla

Ousmane Dembele

It's likely to be a month before football fans see Lionel Messi again after the Argentinian fractured his arm while playing for Barcelona on Saturday.

But Messi then landed heavily on his right arm and was in obvious discomfort, although Barcelona's medical team initially attempted to patch him up by dressing the injury.

The Liga giants have announced that their star man will be out for approximately three weeks.

"We will notice his absence", Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde said.

The now-Juventus forward only missed the Copa del Rey final defeat in 2014 (injury) and the second leg of the 2017/18 Supercopa victory.

The major disappointment is that Messi will miss the match against Real Madrid on October 28.

Messi he was hurt midway through the first-half in an innocuous-looking challenge with Franco Vazquez. He was examined on the sidelines before he was replaced by Ousmane Dembele.

It means next Sunday's match between Barca and Real Madrid will be the first Clasico without either Messi or Ronaldo for 11 years.

Inter Milan's Spanish account sent a classy message to Lionel Messi after he was ruled out of the Champions League clash at the Nou Camp on Wednesday.

Given Messi has been given an approximate recovery time of three weeks, there is every chance he could also miss the visit of Betis, precisely 21 days after suffering his injury and just before the next global break.

'It makes a big difference to have or not to have him but we have enough cover so as not to worry about whether he is there or not'.

Vaclik kept out a Coutinho effort in the 52nd minute after a low-key start to the second period, before Luis Suarez struck wide of the post from distance two minutes later.

Messi was hurt in the first half of Barcelona's 4-2 win against Sevilla at Camp Nou Stadium.

In between all of that, Marc-Andre ter Stegen made two outstanding double saves to ensure Sevilla did not get themselves back into the game.
