Le'Veon Bell spotted at Pittsburgh gym, sends cryptic tweets after report

4 Steelers who must step up against the Panthers

Le'Veon Bell continues to play coy with the public after a report that he was spotted at a Pittsburgh gym. He has lost $855,529 for very week he's missed so far.

13 to report to the team to be eligible to play this season.

Many expect Bell to report to the Steelers by 4 p.m. ET next Tuesday, the deadline for eligibility to play this season, but he reportedly has had no contact with the Steelers this week, and the team remains in the dark about his plans. He needs three games at full pay to have the season credited.

That difference would be more than $10 million guaranteed money next year that would assure Bell that the Steelers wouldn't franchise tag him for a third season and allow him to seek other offers from the outside whether in free agency or the transition tag.

According to The Athletic, Bell and his camp confirmed that the running back would count as a third-year franchise player in 2019 even if he doesn't sign his $14.5 million tender this season.

The report comes two days after Bell tweeted "Fairwell (sic) Miami," which fueled speculation that Bell was making his way back to Pittsburgh. It's a non-exclusive deal worth the average of the top 10 salaries at a position. As Kaboly noted, the Steelers are most likely not going to tag him at such an enormous number, which would virtually make him a free agent. If the Steelers match, regardless of the offer, Bell would have to sign that deal with Pittsburgh.

Pelissero reports the NFLPA could potentially fight if the Steelers tried to use the transition tag in 2019, depending on the situation.

The Steelers selected the Michigan State product in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Without Bell, the Steelers have started their 2018 season 5-2-1 as replacement running back James Connor has racked up 706 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, which are both the second-highest totals in the league.
