Thousand Oaks: 'Mass shooting' reported at California bar

Thousand Oaks a wealthy city in Ventura County and is one of the safest cities in the U.S. based on Federal Bureau of Investigation data.

A witness told KABC-TV that there were many young people "having a great time" in the bar when a man entered and "started shooting".

Authorities say there were multiple injuries - including one officer - after a man opened fire in Southern California bar late Wednesday.

A gunman has opened fire at a country music bar in the city of Thousand Oaks, California, injuring multiple people.

One witness saw the suspect tossing smoke bombs in front of the restaurant before watching a security guard get shot.

A trail of blood was visible on the street at the entrance of the venue.

At least four ambulances responded to treat multiple victims, the Ventura County Star reports.

"Please stay away from area", the department urged in a tweet.

Video showed causalities being carried out of the bar by members of the public and emergency workers.

It is thought the gunman may still be at large and at least police officer is injured.

It has not yet been revealed the extent of the injuries.

The bar is located about 40 miles west of Los Angeles and describes itself as a western-style bar with a spacious dance floor used for theme nights such as country, salsa and swing.
