Who is Jim Acosta? What did he say which INFURIATED Trump?

Jim Acosta

Trump's dislike of Acosta is well known, and he took it to a new level at a wild news conference Wednesday, calling him "a rude, bad person", whom CNN should be ashamed of employing.

Following a lengthy and tense verbal back-and-forth, in which Trump at one point started to stray from his lectern and he called Acosta "a rude, bad person", a female White House intern tried to take the microphone from Acosta.

Video of the staff member trying to take the microphone from him quickly appeared online.

The White House Correspondents' Association is denouncing the decision to bar Acosta, calling it unacceptable and disproportionate to the purported offence.

"The fact that CNN is proud of the way their employee behaved is not only disgusting, it's an example of their outrageous disregard for everyone, including young women, who work in this administration", Ms Sanders said.

But it's not his vigorous questioning that has seen Acosta's White House press pass suspended.

Mr Acosta called Mrs Sanders's characterisation of the incident "a lie", and CNN released a statement defending its reporter.

Some of Donald Trump's supporters have applauded the decision to revoke Acosta's pass, saying he had "manhandled" the White House staffer.

Among the issues that reporters brought up, Acosta asked for a comment on the refugee caravan heading for the U.S. -Mexico border.

CNN's Jim Acosta told CNN's Anderson Cooper that he *never* touched the female White House aide that tried to take the mic away from him.

Acosta kept asking and the president, who held the presser to tout Republican wins in Tuesday's election, had enough and told him to sit down.

"I think you should let me run the country, you run CNN, and if you did it well, your ratings would be much better", Trump said.

"As you know Mr. President, it was not an invasion", Acosta said, citing no evidence for his claim.

In two separate tweets, he said: "I've just been denied entrance to the WH".

"What do you make of it?" she asked. After Acosta finally gives the mic up, Trump chose to attack him personally.

Craig Aaron of the activist group Free Press called Trump's actions "a direct and risky attack on the public's rights to hold their leaders accountable" and called for "a unified stand" by the press corps.

Critics said that video - which sped up the movement of Acosta's arms in a way that dramatically changed the journalist's response - was deceptively edited to score political points. "They are not only unsafe, they are disturbingly un-American", CNN tweeted after the exchange.

She went on to say Mr Trump had given the media "more access than any president in history" and that "contrary to CNN's assertions, there is no greater demonstration of the president's support for a free press than the event he held today".

"We have a lot of problems - excuse me - but to say that what you said is so insulting to me".
