At least 13 dead in California bar shooting

Ian David Long, 28, is believed to have been the gunman.

Long was armed with a Glock 21, a.45-caliber created to hold 10 rounds plus one in the chamber, according to the sheriff.

Also, both the Vegas and Borderline shootings involved country music.

A law enforcement officer said the suspect used a.45-caliber handgun, created to hold a magazine of 10 rounds. He heard another volley of shots after they got out.

According to AP, Ventura County Sheriff's Office Captain Garo Kuredjian said the first reports of shots fired came around 11:20 pm and the authorities are still treating it as "a very active scene". Although the two CHP officers were able to pull him out, he had already been shot multiple times and was later pronounced dead. Most notably in April of this year, Sheriff's Deputies responded to Long's home for a reported disturbance.

The revised figures indicate that 21 people have been wounded, with 13 confirmed dead, including the gunman.

The motive of the attack is not clear, the sheriff said, and authorities are looking at all possibilities, including it being terror-related.

Officers were also entering the bar and finding people who had hidden in out-of-the-way areas.

Witnesses said that people dropped to the floor and hid behind bar stools in stunned silence.

Authorities in Southern California say a gunman killed 12 people late Wednesday during an attack at a bar and dance club. He described many of those injuries as minor.

Officials have not yet released information about the other victims. Conejo Valley Unified schools and Moorpark College will be open, however.

Long joined the marines in 2008.

Federal Bureau of Investigation officials were seen visiting a residence believed to be Long's in Newbury Park, California, which neighbors Thousand Oaks.

As bystanders gathered nearby soon after the incident, deputies yelled at them to stay away.

Helus was a 29-year veteran of the force with a wife and son and planned to retire in the coming year, said the sheriff, choking back tears.

At a news conference Thursday morning, Ventura Country Sheriff Geoff Dean said Long was found dead.

The bar is a few miles from California Lutheran University and is a popular spot for students.

The shooting at the Las Vegas country music festival on October 1, 2017 left 58 people dead and more than 500 injured. The young man wouldn't give his name. "From what I heard, the gunman started shooting at the front desk". It wasn't really random.

People comfort each other outside the Borderline Bar & Grill.

"So I ran to the back". Investigators didn't immediately know how many rounds the magazine could hold, he said. And then it just started going bang, bang, bang, bang, bang and everybody ducked down and started running. I got trampled on.

"And so we got everyone behind the pool table and down, and then there was probably six or seven of us dog-piling over the girls that were beneath us".

"As soon as he walked in he had flawless form", said Whittler, who added she grew up in a military family. "Fortunately it helped save a lot of lives that they fled the scene so rapidly", he said.

Investigators believe Long arrived Wednesday night at the bar in a vehicle, shot a security guard who was standing outside, and then stepped inside. "We're in mourning as a community".
