China’s J-20 Stealth Fighter Jet Performs Stunts for Public

Russia & China show off life-size model of jetliner that will take on Boeing and Airbus

China and Russian Federation on Tuesday unveiled a life-size model of a proposed wide-body long-haul jet at the opening of China's largest airshow, giving public shape to their joint efforts to break into a market dominated by Boeing and Airbus.

"This will have a negative impact on China's aviation growth", Xu Gang, chief executive of Airbus China, told a press briefing at the biennial Airshow China in the southern coastal city of Zhuhai. President Donald Trump criticises China for what he sees as intellectual property theft, entry barriers to US business and a gaping trade deficit, while Beijing calls the complaints unreasonable.

China has turned into a key chasing ground for deals for foreign flight firms on account of surging travel request, however the standpoint has been muddled by Beijing's longing to develop its own victors in enterprises extending from aeronautics to semiconductors to robots.

The 22-meter-long model of China-Russia Commercial Aircraft International Corporation's plane features the cockpit and cabin.

"Our program is making progress and is on schedule", said UAC President Yury Slyusar.

The JV will now enter the preliminary design stage for the plane.

China put the J-20 into service past year that experts say is a part of Beijing's plan to narrow a military technology gap with the United States and its F-35 stealth fighter.

The aviation market is "one of the few Chinese industries where the demand is greater than supply", and less than 1 per cent of the 550 million flights made by Chinese past year were global, reflecting great potential in the market, he added.

The cockpit contained dummy instruments, with actual systems yet to be chosen, including a sidestick similar to the flying control favored by Airbus over the traditional control column.

The US-China trade war has caused quite a "lot of psychological uncertainty" among European aircraft maker Airbus' Chinese partners and customers regarding their expectations for the country's aviation industry, a top official said on Tuesday.

UAC and COMAC announced they would cooperate on a widebody jet programme in 2014 and they started full-scale development of the programme three years later by forming joint venture China-Russia Commercial Aircraft International Corporation (CRAIC).

To date, they have already sought proposals for the plane's engine and landing gear.
