Liverpool 'quietly on the market'

But according to the New York Post, Henry has "quietly signalled he's willing to sell", with his valuation being "well north of $2 billion".

The Reds are not openly for sale, but the Post claims that Henry has been privately entertaining offers, and if the price were right, a deal could be struck.

The report claims Henry is running a "passive sales process" for the club, valuing the Reds in the region of £1.54 billion ($2bn).

It was reported in August that Abu Dhabi tycoon Sheik Khaled Bin Zayed Al Nahayan made an unsuccessful approach to buy Liverpool in late 2017.

FSG acquired the club in October 2010, ending an acrimonious period under the ownership of American businessmen George Gillett and Tom Hicks.

It is unclear if the cousin of Manchester City owner Sheik Mansour has cooled his interest after reportedly being rebuffed.

But, the latest bit of news comes as a bit of a shock for those who have seen John Henry having a positive outlook towards taking Liverpool forward. Subscribe to our SMS sports service by texting "SPORTS" to 22840.

However, Liverpool continue to dismiss suggestions that Fenway Sports Group (FSG) has put the club on the market.

FSG have always maintained the club is not for sale but remain open to the idea of selling a minority stake in return for the right investment.

"In their masterplan, they'll believe in four to five years Liverpool will be worth closer to £3bn", he continued.

"If Arsenal are worth £1.8bn then Liverpool are worth at least £2bn".

But they claim that despite FSG issuing a strong statement at the time denying they were looking to sell, "that's clearly not the case now".
