Taron Egerton confirms he WON'T be back as Eggsy in 'Kingsman 3'

Taron Egerton as secret service agent Eggsy in “Kingsman The Golden Circle”More

The actor quickly confirmed that Eggsy would be sitting this installment out.

'It's a great tool for helping spread the message about what you are up to, ' he says, 'and equally I think because there is an amount of interest in me from the people who have seen the things I have been in, ' says the Kingsman star, who up next will be appearing in a retelling of the classic Robin Hood tale. Egerton indicated that the director has a killer story on tap for the prequel, and also offered a word of encouragement for those who love his character.

It was also a bit confusing, since Egerton noted the news doesn't mean he's completely done with the franchise. "That doesn't mean I won't be in Kingsman ever again".

"His idea for the new one is incredibly exciting", he said.

Early reports regarding the new Kingsman film say that it will take place during World War I and that Ralph Fiennes will take on the lead role. Since Eggsy was the point-of-view character who introduced viewers to the world of Kingsman four years ago, and the hero who helped save the organization in last year's The Golden Circle, it was a bit of a shock to some fans who were eager to see what the character would do next.

Still, as great as all this sounds, it won't quite feel the same without Eggsy around. Of course, it doesn't matter what we think - so far, this franchise has generated roughly $800M worldwide, so we're getting more Kingsman whether we like it or not - but we are curious where the BMD readership stands on this series. Egerton has exploded onto the scene since the first Kingsman film was released, and he's nabbed a few major roles as of late.

If you're anxious about the idea of a Kingsman 3 without Eggsy, not to fret.

After his turn as Robin Hood later this month, the actor will portray music icon Elton John in the 2019 biopic Rocketman. But we'll bet you absolutely no money that he didn't. Let us know your thoughts in the comments!
