Welbeck hospitalised after 'serious' injury

Arsenal Head Coach Unai Emery with Shkodran Mustafi during a training session at London Colney

There were distressing scenes during the course of Arsenal's Europa League clash with Sporting Lisbon on Thursday night as the Gunners' Danny Welbeck suffered a nasty ankle injury that left him needing oxygen.

Players from both sides appeared shaken after Welbeck landed awkwardly from an innocuous-looking challenge in the 25th minute.

"It's a very big injury for him, for us, for all people who like and love him as a person".

The game only really opened up in the 88th minute when Jeremy Mathieu was shown a straight red for a foul on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as the striker raced through on goal.

Chelsea also progressed, thanks to a narrow 1-0 win over BATE Borisov in Belarus.

Welbeck has always been Arsenal's go to man on Europa League nights, scoring five goals in his past 13 appearances in the competition, but he looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after landing on his ankle awkwardly. "We don't want it, but this is our profession".

However, they have not lost since, are fifth in the Premier League, have won all three of their Europa League games and are into the quarter-finals of the Carabao Cup.

"He has been taken to hospital".

Rangers are now level on points with Spartak in an incredibly tight Group G, one point behind leaders Villarreal after the Spaniards´ goalless draw with Rapid Vienna in Austria. I should point out that he played a series of nice passes, clipping them out wide to the full backs and wingers.

Salzburg, semi-finalists last season, qualified for the next round with a 5-2 thrashing of Rosenborg in the group´s other match, as Japanese forward Takumi Minamino scored a hat-trick.

The home side started positively enough with Matteo Guendouzi getting in behind the visitors backline to send a low ball in, but Welbeck's flick was hacked off the line.
