Detective Pikachu recently came to the West on 3DS, and soon it will be making the jump from the small, handheld screen to the massive theater screen.

The first full trailer for Ryan Reynolds' Detective Pikachu movie has been released and we've heard the iconic character speak for the first time.

As the name of the move suggests, the movie is based around Pokemon's most recognisable figure, Pikachu.

It turns out that the only one who can help Tim (Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's Justice Smith) is his dad's former partner, the legendary, wise-cracking Detective Pikachu, who's just excited to once again find someone that can understand him.

"I think we all knew I'd wind up as a miniature detective repeatedly saying the same two words".

What do you think of this debut trailer?

The approach appears to appeal to an older audience, with a gritty look and more adult humour thrown into the mix, such as Pikachu saying the problem is that he pushes people away then "hates them for leaving" during an interrogation with the Pokemon Mr. Mime.

Detective Pikachu is the first live-action Pokémon movie ever, giving us our first look at what real life would be like with these sassy pocket monsters, fulfilling childhood fantasies from around the world. Its initial release is scheduled for May 10, 2019.
