Khashoggi recordings do not implicate Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed, Bolton says

Saudi officials denied Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman had any knowledge of Khashoggi's killing

"Following the latest update to the Khashoggi murder case, The New York Times reported that shortly after the assassination of Khashoggi at the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2, a member of the team that was sent to conduct the murder, was heard instructing a superior over the phone to 'tell your boss".

The release of the X-ray images reinforces Turkish officials' beliefs that the murder was planned and orchestrated from the Saudi capital Riyadh, rather than being an interrogation gone wrong as Saudi Arabia has previously claimed.

President Tayyip Erdogan said recordings related to the killing of Jamal Khashoggi, which Turkey has shared with Western allies, are "appalling" and shocked a Saudi intelligence officer who listened to them, Turkish media reported on Tuesday.

"We gave the recordings, we gave them to Saudi Arabia, we gave them to Washington, to the Germans, to the French, to the English", Erdogan said in a televised speech.

Bolton said he did not think that people who heard the recordings concluded that the crown prince was linked to the killing.

Bolton shares with Saudi Arabia a hawkish stance against Riyadh's biggest Middle East rival Iran, and he championed Washington's resumption of sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

The newspaper says the telephone call was made by Maher Abdulaziz Mutreb, a security officer who frequently travelled with the crown prince.

"I had a conversation with Erdogan a couple of weeks ago, and here in Paris we had brief exchanges and I thanked him for his strength in responding to the Khashoggi situation", Trudeau added.

His remarks to the Shura Council, a top advisory body to the government, will encompass domestic and foreign policy, SPA said, and they will be his first public comments since the Khashoggi killing.

On Sunday, his U.S. counterpart, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, told bin Salman that the USA will hold all those involved in the killing of Khashoggi accountable, and "that Saudi Arabia must do the same", spokeswoman Heather Nauert said in a statement.

Turkish intelligence officers have told United States officials they believe Mutreb was speaking to one of the prince's aides, it reported.

'It must be revealed who gave them the order to murder'.

Samples taken from the drains at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul showed traces of acid, pro-government daily Sabah said, without quoting sources. Qahtani has wielded that influence over the last three years, with his authority growing alongside that of the young prince.

Saudi Crown Prince, Mohammed bin Salman, attends the second day of Future Investment Initiative conference, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2018.

He also supervised the brief detention, humiliation and beating of Lebanese Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri previous year.

Ankara also said that Saudi intelligence were so outraged by the recording that they believed the killers of Khashoggi "were on heroin". Reuters could not immediately verify the Sabah report.

"He said this to my special envoys", Erdogan was quoted as saying.

After Saudi Arabia admitted that Khashoggi was killed in its Istanbul consulate, five high-ranking officials were dismissed, including bin Salman's media chief and the deputy head of the Saudi intelligence service.

People who've heard a recording of Saudi columnist Jamal Khashoggi's murder don't believe it implicates Saudi Arabia's de facto ruler, U.S. National Security Adviser John Bolton said, weighing in on a controversy that has sharply raised global pressure on the top oil exporter.
