Monica Lewinsky Reflects on Her Apology to Hillary

Monica Lewinsky at the Cannes Lions 2015 International Advertising Festival in Cannes southern France

Monica Lewinsky is preparing to participate in a documentary series about her time in the White House and she had a lot to say about how the media handled her affair with former President Bill Clinton.

She explained that this was the first time she and the president had been together since she had been "banished" to the Pentagon, a decision she believed was made to keep her from affecting the 1996 presidential election. "And about me", she writes.

Broaddrick, who has accused Clinton of raping her in 1978, told Fox News that Lewinsky's assertion that there was "deep hurt" resulting from her relationship with Clinton doesn't even scratch the surface when it comes to her own experience.

As for why she chose to participate in the TV special, Lewinsky tellsVanity Fair, "BecauseI could". "As I passed [communications director] George Stephanopoulos' office, I kind of looked into the open doorway, and Bill happened to be standing there, and he motioned me in", she recollects. Lewinsky and her parents, as well as many close to Clinton, including former senior advisor Sidney Blumenthal and former lawyer Bob Bennett, participated in the documentary. "(It's a combustible combination.) An important part of moving forward is excavating, often painfully, what has gone before", she wrote.

Lewinsky specifically addressed the power dynamic between the president of the United States and an intern, an imbalance Hillary Clinton dismissed because Lewinsky was an adult at the time.

"At 22, I took the small, narrow sliver of the man I knew and mistook it for the whole."

Looking back at the then-president's forceful press conference denial of the affair with a new lens, she wrote that that's where "the demonization of Monica Lewinsky began. That's very different. The apology was public", Bill Clinton told Melvin. Was I owed a direct apology from him? Bill's indignant answer: "'No'". "I'm less disappointed by him, and more disappointed for him".

"If I were to see Hillary Clinton in person today, I know that I would summon up whatever force I needed to again acknowledge to her-sincerely-how very sorry I am", Monica wrote.

"Instead of pulling my pants up, like I would in any other instance, I didn't", said Lewinsky. And she debates (mostly with herself) whether she's a victim or a vixen. "I have also written letters apologizing to others-including some who also wronged me gravely". "He would be a better man for it. and we, in turn, a better society".

Lewinsky wrote a long explainer for Vanity Fair about the interviews she did for the A&E series - and explained her frustration with Clinton after the affair and also the way he was treated by the media, as The Daily Caller also noted, since they nearly never asked him about it.
