Susanna Dinnage to succeed Richard Scudamore as chief executive

She replaces Richard Scudamore, who confirmed in June that he would be stepping down after 19 years as the Premier League's executive chairman. But what will be top of her in-tray?

Such criteria would have seen the likes of Chelsea's French defensive midfielder N'Golo Kanté and Manchester City winger Riyad Mahrez - who, although he plays for Algeria, is a French citizen - prevented from playing in England.

On the opening day of the inaugural Premier League season, there were just 13 non-British players.

According to Martyn Ziegler, their proposal is to drop the limit of foreign players in a first-team squad from 17 to 12.

Dinnage will not have to negotiate a rights deal with Sky for a couple of years.

The announcement was made after a hastily-arranged meeting with club chairmen and chief executives in London today.

There's no doubt that the influx of foreign players in the Premier League has improved the standard of the league.

"She is a leading figure in the broadcasting industry, a proven business executive and a great developer of people", said Buck.

Dinnage has revealed that she once wanted to be a zoologist.

Dialogue with the Football Supporters Federation - which is merging with Supporters Direct - will be important.

Football Association chairman Greg Clarke said: "The FA and the Premier League have a strong and successful relationship and we look forward to building on that under Susanna's new leadership".

"Back in 1992 they were the catalyst for the start of the Premier League journey and have backed us all the way since". The ban was imposed following the recommendation of Lord Justice Taylor in his second report into the 1989 Hillsborough disaster, and has been the subject of fierce debate from both sides. One source said: "It's safe to say not everyone is happy about this".

Even without the FA aiming to implement this plan, the effects of Brexit are already being felt on Premier League clubs with Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino alluding to it as a reason why the club failed to add to their squad in the previous transfer window.

If there is a change in government, this could become a major priority for Dinnage, with Labour calling for a ban on gambling advertising during live sporting events and threatening to take legislative action to force clubs to end sponsorship deals with betting firms.
