Victor of $1.5b Mega Millions prize still hasn't claimed the money

1.5 Billion Mega Millions jackpot still unclaimed 3 weeks after drawing

The victor of a massive $1.537 billion Mega Millions jackpot has yet to come claim the prize weeks after the drawing, CBS Columbia affiliate WLTX reports.

SC doesn't require lottery winners to identify themselves. Winning numbers will be drawn every Tuesday and Friday night at 11 ET until another winning ticket has been sold. Their time doesn't run out until April 21.

The winning ticket was sold at the KC Mart #7 in Simpsonville, South Carolina in late October.

The report said that the victor has 180 days to step forward.

The person who bought the Mega Millions lottery ticket worth $1.5 billion last month still hasn't claimed the prize. He estimated between 10 to 15 visitors a day.

"They still have over 100 days to come forward", Holli Armstrong, a South Carolina Education Lottery spokeswoman, told CNN on Wednesday.

The lucky victor can choose to receive a lump sum of $878 million or $1.537 billion in installments over 30 years.

Tony Cooper, the chief operating officer of the South Carolina Education Lottery, told ABC News that the victor should sign the back of the lottery ticket, store it in a safe place, and seek financial advice.

The lottery, however, does not know if the victor took that advice or why no one has spoken up.

One Twitter user had a suggestion about what to do with the money in the event the victor never steps forward: "Why doesn't the gov't just pick 25k lotto winners 1.5B/26K=$60K each and save itself the hassle?"
