Croatia vs. Spain - Football Match Report

England UEFA Nations League 2018

Jedvaj emerged as Croatia's hero with his first two worldwide goals, sending the home crowd into raptures with his second when he swept home a rebound after Spain had twice come from behind.

Spain were left with virtually no time to respond, though, when left-back Jedvaj struck again in stoppage time.

"We created chances, hit the crossbar and some of them seemed even impossible to miss, but today football hasn't been just with us". "The first goal is from a mistake we made, the second from a set piece and the third in a situation that was desperate for both teams".

England and Croatia have four points each, behind Spain on six, and they face each other at Wembley on Sunday.

Spain have experienced a slump since thumping Croatia 6-0 in September and beating England in their Nations League opener.

"We deserved to take the lead, but for one reason or another it wasn't to be and now we need to hope that England and Croatia draw on Sunday, because it's not in our hands".

Their place in the finals of the new competition now hangs in the balance, however, after losing 3-2 at home to England and defeat in Zagreb.

Luis Enrique appeared resigned to his side not making it through, turning his attention to the qualifying campaign for Euro 2020.

"I would love to be in the Final Four, but the target is the European Championship and we are in it".

"We knew we were in a group with two of the best teams in the world but I'm not anxious about my team".

"I see areas for improvement, but I think the result is totally unfair". "We were better in the first half and we deserved more", the coach said.

Midfielder Sergio Busquets shared Luis Enrique's assessment of the group, but he believes Spain have showed themselves to be the best of the three teams.
