Five resignations and a funeral for Theresa May's Brexit deal

'I think there are many people in the Conservative Party, not just in Parliament but in the country at large, who feel that her service now should come to an end, ' he said.

"Leadership is about taking the right decisions, not the easy ones".

Speaking in a press conference tonight, Mrs May backed her own deal saying it is the best deal and that it "delivers on priorities" of British people.

Again, Mrs May did not answer the question directly, instead insisting that she and her government have "hold out ground" in negotiations with the EU.

"Any negotiation, as complex as it is, leads to compromises".

Yesterday, Jacob Rees-Mogg publicly handed his letter of no confidence to Sir Graham Brady, chairman of the backbench 1922 Committee responsible for Tory leadership elections.

She replied: "I'm very sorry that both Dom and Esther felt that they needed to leave the Cabinet, they have done great work".

Several Conservative lawmakers are pushing for a no-confidence vote, hoping to reach a threshold of 48 to trigger a challenge.

The threat of a no-deal reared its head this morning after Brexit secretary Dominic Raab dramatically resigned after the Prime Minister pushed her draft withdrawal agreement through cabinet last night.

'We may have hit the 48 letters but no announcement, ' he said. "Government policy is government policy".

BBC political editor Laura Kuenssberg said she understood Mr Gove had rejected the PM's offer to make him Brexit secretary, because May would not let him renegotiate the deal.

"The Department of Health is ensuring it is making all the steps if we go to no-deal". But I believe we've got a good deal'.

But the BBC understands Mr Gove, a leading figure in the Leave campaign during the European Union referendum, rejected her offer to make him Brexit secretary - saying he would only accept it if he could try to make changes to the negotiated deal, something Theresa May had made clear was not possible.

A resignation by such a high-profile Brexiteer would deal another major blow to Mrs May.

International Development Secretary Penny Mordaunt also has reservations about the plan and used meetings with Mrs May and Cabinet Secretary Mark Sedwill to argue that there should be a free vote in the Commons on the Brexit deal.
