Lion Air crash victim's father files USA lawsuit against Boeing

American Airlines'Unaware Of Boeing 737 MAX's Anti Stall Function Until Last Week

An Indonesian woman whose fiance was among 189 people killed when a Lion Air flight crashed into the sea near Jakarta last month implored authorities on Friday to improve the safety and regulation of the country's airlines.

The case is Irianto v. Boeing Co., 2108-L-012384, Illinois Circuit Court, Cook County (Chicago).

The suit alleges this is a change from prior Boeing 737 designs and that the company failed to communicate the change.

The father of Rio Nanda Pratama filed the lawsuit Wednesday in the U.S. state of IL, where the plane manufacturer is headquartered, over the death of the young doctor who was to have married his high-school sweetheart this week. The official said that the manual did not intimate the pilots that the plane's stall-prevention system could automatically trigger a response in emergency situations, including the lowering of the aircraft's nose. "That's why we don't have the special training for that specific situation", he said.

When the angle of attack sensors - which detect how wind is meeting the wing - perceive incorrect readings the plane may think it is experiencing an aerodynamic stall, causing it to dive.

That news stunned pilot unions and other experts who said they had no idea an automatic stall-prevention system was even added to the new 737 model, and never knew about the potentially fatal problem. On Thursday, American Airlines backed up their pilots' claims.

Boeing declined to comment beyond statements issued regarding the memo.

The victim had been expected to Wednesday his fiance, Intan Indah Syari, after the Lion Air flight.

"They (Boeing) didn't provide us all the info we rely on when we fly an aircraft", Capt. Dennis Tajer, a spokesman for the APA group, told CNN on Tuesday.

"We didn't receive any information from Boeing or from regulator about that additional training for our pilots", he told CNN. Boeing said Lion Air Flight 610 experienced "erroneous input" from one of the sensors in question.

Boeing said last week that a safety bulletin issued to aircraft operators in the wake of the crash was merely meant to reinforce existing procedures.

"Please improve the regulation of the aviation industry, in terms of safety and inspections, before a flight takes off", she said.

A Florida-based law firm has filed a suit against Boeing on behalf of the parents of Rio Nanda Pratama, a doctor who had been due to marry in Indonesia this week.
