Proof Duke's Zion Williamson Can Hit Head on Rim

Heat star Dwyane Wade reacts to Zion Williamson’s eerily-similar dunk to LeBron James’

Williamson had 21 points and nine rebounds Wednesday night, but his Earth-shaking dunk in the first half completely stole the show.

In the first two wins of the season, freshmen R.J. Barrett, Zion Williamson and Cam Reddish have combined to score more than 70 percent of Duke's total points, and many have questioned whether the Blue Devils would be as dominant in off nights by the freshmen.

For the first time this season, and for the first time ever for the freshmen that heavily populate the Duke basketball roster, the No. 1 in the nation tag was worn by the team as it hosted Eastern Michigan on Wednesday.

Williamson is averaging 25.3 points, 10.7 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game for the No. 1 Blue Devils this season, so it's fair to say that, while seeing him play football would be pretty intriguing, he clearly made the right decision to stick with hoops.

"This is a team, and there are other players - there are upperclassmen, and they lead us, because they've been through this", said the 6-foot-7, 285-pound Williamson who wows fans with his athletic ability and acrobatic dunks. We played at a pace that was different from the pace (the Eagles) are really good at.

It didn't matter that Williamson's high school didn't have a football program. They joined Jabari Parker as the only Duke freshmen to post 20 points in each of their first three games. And Williamson runs the floor and finishes strong at the rim - often dazzling the crowd in the process. "We know how to play against multiple defenses".

Wednesday night's game against Eastern Michigan was no exception.

That Earth-shaking slam wasn't Williamson's sole dunk of the evening.

The first alley-oop, in which he caught the ball above the white square on the backboard, impressed even himself.

In the Eastern Michigan game, Williamson scored the first points for Duke with a dunk. And of course, there's the show-stopping work at the rim.

But college stardom is a new experience for these freshmen, and what Krzyzewski has described as "exceptional noise" surrounding the team became exponentially louder after the 34-point rout of Kentucky - now arguably no longer the capital of one-and-done. I used to think Jadeveon Clowney was the biggest freak I'd ever seen.

"We've got to keep getting better every day", he added.
