Toyota Introduces Avalon and Camry TRD

2020 Toyota Camry TRD

A specially-tuned cat-back dual exhaust, for instance, should sound more aggressive than the standard vehicle.

Toyota has unveiled the Camry TRD and Avalon TRD versions as the sedans have become sportier with "distinct exhaust note" and ability to tame corners better due to their racing pedigree according to the brand.

The underbody is thicker for increased torsional rigidity and the coil springs are lowered by 0.6 inches for optimised center of gravity. The 12.9-inch rotor front brakes are nearly an inch larger than the standard brakes on the regular XSE grade cars, and double up to dual-piston calipers. Black seats are accented by red lines and shapes everywhere like TRD emblazoned headrests and a TRD embossed gear shift. The shock absorbers are also modified while the 19 x 8.5-inch matte black alloy wheels complement the suspension package with improved steering precision, body control and handling. An eight-speed automatic remains the only transmission choice.

Bridgestone Potenza summer tires wrap around 19-inch black wheels that are lighter than the Avalon XSE model's wheels.

In the looks department, the Camry and Avalon TRD gain red brake calipers, 19-inch black wheels, TRD exhaust tips, and TRD badges.

Available in red, white, silver, and black, the Avalon TRD will go on sale soon with an asking price that's likely to be a few thousand dollars higher than the $38,920 Avalon V-6 XSE. Red trim is the name of the game inside, with faux-suede inserts and red accents for the seats along with red stitching throughout the cabin. The TRD sedans also come with a suite of standard Toyota Safety Sense-P including pre-collision Braking.

On the styling front, both models have an aerodynamic body kit that includes a front splitter, new side skirts and a trunk-mounted spoiler. Toyota says both TRD cars will be limited in number, too, though hasn't detailed exactly how many there'll be.
