Caravan forces short-term shutdown on USA border as DHS boosts security

Keeping Tabs The DHS Has Paid Informants Embedded In Illegal Alien Caravan

According to Fox News, "Homeland Security officials say there are now 6,000 people in Tijuana waiting to be processed at the San Ysidro border crossing, with more on the way".

Some Tijuana residents supported the migrants, but others accused them of being messy, ungrateful and a danger to the city.

The migrant crisis at the border has been acknowledged by President Donald Trump on numerous occasions.

Mexico's ambassador to the U.S., Geronimo Gutierrez, told reporters Monday that the situation is a "wake-up call" for the U.S., Mexico and Central America that could force the region to work together to address the hard issue of immigration.

Because of the additional security measures and lane closures, border officials are recommending those who traveling north into the US prepare to face additional wait times.

Southbound lanes remained open and unaffected, officials said.

"CBP has been and will continue to prepare for the potential arrival of thousands of people migrating in a caravan heading towards the border of the United States", said Pete Flores, director of field operations in San Diego, in a statement.

Hundreds of Tijuanans are protesting the thousands of Central American migrants who are camped out in their city at Mexico's border awaiting entry to the US.

Lesbia Navarro, 36, stayed inside the stadium with her four children ages 3 to 16 as they listened to the shouts and insults from the protesters Sunday.

The protests came amid what may be a hardening of positions in some northern Mexican states against the migrants. "We want them to return to Honduras", said Mr. Rivera.

Approximately 100 cases per day are completed and wait times can be as long as six months. Dozens of migrants in the caravan who have been interviewed by Associated Press reporters have said they left their country after death threats.

"We are fleeing violence", said Josue Caseres, an entertainer from Santa Barbara, Honduras. Mr. Gastelum has appealed to the federal government for more assistance to cope with the influx.

Central American migrants peer out from a migrant shelter as anti-immigrant demonstrators protest one block away in Tijuana, Mexico, on Sunday.

The Mexican Interior Ministry announced Friday that just under 2,700 Central American migrants have applied for asylum in Mexico under a program launched late last month that pledged to provide them with work and living permissions faster.

He followed that tweet by writing: "Catch and Release is an obsolete term".

Given the increasing attention on the caravan, and the insistence by top USA officials that the migrants will not simply be allowed to enter the US, the crowds in Tijuana reportedly may end up having to wait six months for their asylum claims to be heard.
