Donald Trump's got the solution to forest fires

CNN TwitterPresident Donald Trump claimed that the Finnish president told him about ‘raking’ forests

The fire zone in Northern California is to some extent Trump country, and that enthusiasm was on display as dozens of people cheered and waved flags as his motorcade went by.

What's more, the biologist says that raking the forests would do more harm than good when it comes to the overall health of the trees. "We're going to have safe forests".

Scientists say wildfires such as the Camp Fire are made more likely by global warming. Pointing to his own head, it was captioned: "Can I get one more rake out here". He also recalled telling Trump that Finns "take care of our forests".

While visiting California this weekend, President Donald Trump said Finnish President Sauli Niinisto told him that "raking" was part of the country's forest management before insinuating that it's something the United States should be doing to mitigate wildfires.

Finnish President Sauli Niinisto later disputed this.

Maybe it wasn't Niinisto who gave Trump the raking idea.

The president's comments have inspired Finns to post pictures of themselves raking on social media. "And they're raking them - they're on fire". Trump told Fox News from the Oval Office on Friday - before he left for California.

It's not clear what the President meant by "great climate".

Speaking to reporters during the weekend while in California to see the impact of devastating forest fires, the United States president again blamed forest management, but said Finland had the answer.

Except Finland does not have that strategy for managing its vast forest reserves.

Finnish people used #Haravointi to describe "raking".

The day before, the USA president said: "I was with the president of Finland, and he said we have a much different - we're a forest nation".

Trump has already drawn criticism for blaming the fires on mismanagement - his first tweet on the wildfires was an attempt to politicise the disaster with no mention of the victims. We've never seen anything like this in California. "But the reality is, to manage every little bit of fuel with a rake is not practical". If only California put its leaves away in time.

Finland has a notably different climate from dry California, being more than 20 degrees further to the north than the region hit by the Camp Fire.

President Trump, who was visibly affected by what he saw, called the wildfires "this monster".

Much more than rakes, in other words.
