Skybound Entertainment Resumes Production on Telltale’s The Walking Dead

The Walking Dead co-creator Robert Kirkman's media company, Skybound, announced that they would be finishing development on the final episodes of the season, and would be seeking to provide work exclusively to ex-Telltale employees where possible.

On September 21st of this year, Telltale Games - acclaimed developers of Telltale's The Walking Dead, Game of Thrones, The Wolf Among Us, Tales from the Borderlands, and more - laid off a majority of its workforce with no severance package and closed its doors for good.

Thank you for your patience while we worked with Telltale to take control of TELLTALE'S THE WALKING DEAD. With the recent deal between Telltale and Skybound Entertainment finalized, production has resumed on the Final Season of the popular zombie game.

New release dates will also be announced soon, though Ian Howe, CEO of Skybound Games, stated earlier in a Reddit AMA that the third episode might be out before the end of 2018. Not only that but the studio also revealed that it brought back "many of the talented, passionate team members who originally worked on the game".

According to the statement, new release dates for the remaining episodes will be announced soon, and reassurances have been made that anyone who has already purchased a season pass will get access to the final episodes once they are complete. Upon its return, the series will be made available to purchase once again, and players who now have the series pre-purchased will not be required to take any steps to ensure they receive the new episodes once they're ready for launch. Former Telltale lead writer James Windeler confirmed the news on Twitter, adding that the original team is "back in the old office today to finish out Clementine's story".
