The raw, non-intact beef items, including ground beef, were packaged on various dates from July 26, 2018 to September 7, 2018.

A ground beef recall issued in October has grown to include an additional 5 million pounds that may include salmonella.

The total amount of "non-intact raw beef products" that have been recalled now exceeds more than 12 million pounds.

All product supplied from JBS packaging facility in Tolleson, AZ.

Traceback investigators have found that three confirmed patients had JBS ground beef products that were not part of the October 4 recall. Consumers are urged to look for packages that have the company's identification number "EST".

The products being recalled were packaged between July 26 and September 7.

The raw beef was shipped nationwide to retail locations.

In general the USDA and their public health partners, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and state public health officials, said no one should be eating partially cooked or raw meat and that salmonella is prevalent and can be present in raw poultry or meat. People can usually recover in four to seven days on their own, but sometimes symptoms can be severe enough to require hospitalization. The FSIS has posted and is updating product lists and lists of specific retailers that received the recalled beef. Officials are anxious consumers may overlook the recall because they've stored this beef in their freezers. In 1985, more than 6,000 people were sickened and nine people died in a salmonella outbreak tied to tainted milk.

Salmonella causes cramps, diarrhea, abdominal cramps, and fever. In addition, "only consume ground beef that has been cooked to a temperature of 160°F".

Anyone with questions about this recall can call JBS at 800-727-2333.
