Chevy Silverado HD diverges from smaller sibling

Company officials said the greater differentiation resulted from feedback from owners, who said they wanted their HD models to stand out from the Silverado 1500 models.

General Motors has revealed the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado HD, carrying forward numerous upgrades introduced with the all-new Silverado 1500.

Chevrolet just pulled the covers off of its 2020 Silverado HD, and the new truck boasts incredible power numbers, an all-new body and one scary-looking grill.

Hot on the heels of Chevrolet's completely redesigned 2019 Silverado 1500 pickup truck, the automaker has unveiled the next biggest model in its full-size lineup.

Still, like the Silverado 1500, the HD also gains an additional 3 inches (7.6 cm) of legroom on crew cab models, to go with a taller, more comfortable seating position. Chevy has also devised a modern take on the "stepside" pickup style by embedding what it dubs a "Bedstep" in front of the HD's rear wheels for improved access to the box when there's a trailer attached. Technology will get a boost, too, though Chevrolet is saving details on that for February.

Chevy Silverado HD diverges from smaller sibling

This hasn't stop Chevy to give truck lovers an early Christmas gift by releasing a few details and several photos that show the heavy hauler in its full glory.

Under the hood will be a choice of two new powertrains, according to Chevrolet.

GM says the new Silverado HD benefits from a more user-friendly trailering system, along with significant increases in towing and payload capabilities. Chevy only states that the diesel will be mated to a 10-speed automatic and deliver 910 pound-feet of torque, suggesting it will be a version of the current 6.6-liter Duramax that was added for 2017 and offers 445 horsepower and 910 pound-feet of torque.

Chevy will be making the new Silverado 2500/3500 at its truck plant in Flint, Mich., and says that sales will begin in mid-2019.
