'Racing Point' to change name again for 2019

Force India's new Racing Point name to change before 2019 F1 season

Upon the Stroll-led consortium's purchase of the team, they changed their name from Sahara Force India to Racing Point Force India and forfeited the 59 points that they had earned through the first 12 races of the season.

Team principal Otmar Szafnauer confirmed that his squad will not be known as Racing Point next year.

At the same time, Force India - an impressive upper-midfield team - nearly collapsed financially.

The end of Force India marks the full stop of India's participation in Formula One after the extinction of Indian Grand Prix in 2013. Now, however, it seems that the Silverstone-based team is planning a completely new name that will be revealed ahead of the 2019 season, with Racing Point just being a placeholder. The Pink Panthers entered administration during the summer but emerged when Lawerence Stroll bought the team. Now that all its financial trouble is behind them, the outfit is keen to take back its place and climb up even further.

The Canadian billionaire and fashion mogul sponsored his teenage son Lance at Williams in 2017 and 2018, but the British team's performance crashed this year.

However, it turns out that the team will not be named Racing Point next season after all.

"I'm not in this for ego". "It is because of how they have performed, on the budget they have had, that this opportunity has been realised. I'm in this for the long term, as I have been with every other business I've owned, be it Tommy Hilfiger, Michael Kors or whoever".

"That is still to be clarified how well that works out", he continued.

"But, put simply, this was a phenomenal business opportunity that presented itself".
