XFL announces inaugural home cities

XFL Commissioner & CEO Oliver Luck

"After months of research and consideration, we're thrilled to announce the cities and venues of the XFL's eight inaugural teams", said Luck.

In October, XFL Commissioner Oliver Luck said the league had no plans to resurrect original team names and identities.

McMahon's league played one season in 2001 and then was disbanded. Ticket prices will be "significantly lower" than other USA professional sports leagues, he added.

Dallas, Houston, LA, New York, St. Louis, Tampa Bay and Washington D.C. have also been named as host cities.

Commissioner and chief executive Oliver Luck also said there will be franchises in Houston, St. Louis, Seattle, Tampa and Washington, D.C., when the league kicks off the weekend of February 8-9. He also said they've taken input from fans and some of their best ideas have come from them. Vince noted that representatives from the eight team cities were in attendance.

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon announced in January that the revived XFL would launch in 2020 with eight teams of 40 players and a 10-game schedule.

The XFL will play its games during the NFL's offseason and will "complement", not directly compete with the National Football League, he added.

New Jersey Governor Philip Murphy kicked off the press conference and confirmed that MetLife Stadium will be home to one of the XFL teams. Touting everything from faster game play to decriminalized rosters (seriously), Vince McMahon's National Football League alternative lasted just one season on its first run back in 2001.

McMahon sold WWE shares worth $100 million to bankroll the XFL's relaunch.
