Brie Larson kicks ass in new 'Captain Marvel' trailer

The New 'Captain Marvel' Trailer Is Here And It's Insane

Before we get to Avengers 4, we're getting Captain Marvel. Which means that, before we get the Avengers 4 trailer, we've now got a new one for Captain Marvel.

In just over a decade, Brie Larson has gone from an Avril Lavigne knock-off to indie darling to an Oscar victor to playing "as powerful a character" as the Marvel Cinematic Universe has ever seen. It's likely that Carol Danvers will have a huge role in the Infinity War sequel, with director Kevin Smith going so far as to predict that she'll be the one to defeat Thanos.

If it's not his exasperation with the Avengers that makes Nick Fury so relatable, it's definitely his reaction to Goose (an apparent replacement for Chewie, Captain Marvel's cat in the comics).

We did not expect this turn of events, but we enthusiastically accept the new reality where we all relate to Nick Fury.

We learn in this trailer that Carol genuinely has no memory of her life as a human on Earth-she was "found" by the Kree empire, after some sort of accident, and "saved" by a procedure that looks suspiciously like a run-of-the-mill blood transfusion which, apparently, spliced her genes with Kree DNA. There have been some brief instances of brainwashing and some typical comic book flavored stakes involving memory loss and time travel, but nothing that would really necessitate her origin involve her not remembering Earth.

Danvers doesn't know the full story as to who she is.

Captain Marvel takes the idea of origin stories in a different direction.

We know that aside from Fury paging Captain Marvel at the end of Infinity War, two characters from the Guardians of the Galaxy - Ronan the Accuser (Lee Pace) and Korath the Pursuer (Djimon Hounsou) - also appear in the film.

Judging by the trailer, it is expected that Larson's character will stay true to her comic-book roots.

"I thought of myself as being an introvert with asthma who needed to get her s- together to be able to do this", Larson told the Sun.
