Ecuadorian President talked with Manafort about removing Assange from embassy

We will remind, the British newspaper The Guardian, previously argued that Paul Manafort met with WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in 2013, 2015 and 2016-m to year in the Embassy of Ecuador in London.

A deal between Ecuador and China would likely have been quite lucrative for Manafort, who was styling himself as an global power broker during his mid-2017 meeting with Moreno. According to the outlet, Trump's former manager, who is reported to have presented himself as a liaison for the new United States administration, travelled to Quito to facilitate a deal between Chinese investors and the Latin American country's power sector.

"The NYT points out that there's no evidence that Manafort briefed the Trump administration on the Assange talks, or that it had anything to do with WikiLeaks" publication of a raft of Democratic Party emails allegedly stolen by "Russian spies" amid the USA presidential race.

Assange is wanted by both US and British authorities, making his refuge at the London embassy a sticking point between Ecuador and the two world powers.

The talks ultimately came to nothing, as within a few days of the meeting Robert Mueller was appointed the Justice Department's special counsel to investigate allegations of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation, and it soon became clear that Manafort would be a target of the investigation.

"When Mr. Manafort met with President Moreno of Ecuador to discuss the China Development Fund, the president raised with Mr. Manafort his desire to remove Julian Assange from Ecuador's Embassy", Jason Maloni, a Manafort spokesman, told CNN in a statement.

According to the sources, there was no evidence that Manafort was working with or even briefing Trump or other administration officials on his discussions with the Ecuadoreans about Assange.

"Mr. Manafort listened but made no promises as this was ancillary to the objective of the meeting".

The former head of trump's staff held a final meeting with Moreno a few days after the appointment of Robert Mueller spectaculorum for investigation of Russia's intervention in USA elections 2016.

Assange and Wikileaks are also players in the investigations into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
