Fears growing for backpacker Grace Millane missing in New Zealand

The family last spoke to her on Thursday, November 29, and concerns for her safety were mounting.

The father of a British tourist missing in Auckland is flying to New Zealand in a bid to find her.

Detective Inspector Scott Beard says Grace had not been in contact with her family for a number of days.

The distressed family released a plea on social media after Ms Millane had been missing for five days.

The witness said the young woman, who she believes to have been Millane, did not have her arm out with her thumb stuck up in the air like a hitchhiker.

But they became alarmed when she didn't respond to birthday messages on Sunday.

A number of unconfirmed sightings have been reported to officers.

On Wednesday, police received a missing person's report regarding the English national, who is now visiting New Zealand on holiday.

She had travelled to the Bay of Islands on a trip, then arrived in Auckland on Friday.

The image showed her on Auckland's Victoria Street near the SkyCity entertainment complex at around 7.15pm on Saturday.

A "large focus" of the investigation had been examining CCTV footage, Beard said.

"The longer this goes on the more concerning it is".

'We are really, really anxious and concerned about Grace.

Ms Millane was travelling alone when she arrived in New Zealand about two weeks ago and was staying at the Base Backpackers hostel in central Auckland.

He revealed she had been in South America six sex week ago, before going to New Zealand two weeks ago.

Brother Michael Millane, 29, said the family are now anxious and her disappearance is "totally unlike her".

During that time she had been in touch with her family daily through WhatsApp.

Her father is now en route to New Zealand to aide in the search.

Thousands of people have shared the post.

Ms Millane is about 5ft 6in tall with brown hair and brown eyes.

Tony McLeod, consular manager at the British High Commission in Wellington, said the commission were providing consular assistance to the family back in the UK.

Various sightings of Millane have her last wearing a black top, blue jeans and red sneakers.

"There have been a few tips and we will be working through them".

Base Backpackers declined to comment.

We just want her to get in contact, ' he said.

"This is particularly out of character, especially as it was her 22nd birthday on Sunday".

"We are working closely with her family at this time and a number of Police staff are now working on this matter". "Please share and contact if you have any information regarding her whereabouts".
