Kate Middleton reveals Prince Louis is learning to wave

While it was previously suggested that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge would be celebrating separately with the Middleton family, it appears they will be joining the royals along with their three children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

"When William served in the Falklands or went search and rescue, I remember how it felt".

Talking about spending time away from her family at Christmas, she said: "It's emotional, I think it's easier for us out here because we just muck in together".

"The absence of people you love must be especially hard at this time of year", Kate continued.

"As we approach Christmas, Catherine and I feel strongly that praise for your work and recognition of your sacrifices is exactly what is due to you all".

She was hit with a mock snowball, but it was all in good spirits. Busy, important, ROYAL people who have three small children to raise as kind and well-adjusted humans, lest they be mercilessly shut down in the public eye for not being "humble" or "one of us".

As artificial snow fell the two exchanged snowballs and Kate even found herself the target of a playful attack.

During a Kensington Palace Christmas party on Tuesday, the Cambridges met the families of pilots, senior officers and ground crews from 11 Squadron - a Typhoon fighter unit based at RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire and flying missions from Cyprus to combat Isis.

Earlier the duchess had chatted to Barrie, 72, and Ann Macdonald, 70, from Manchester who are looking after their five-year-old grandson Harry while his parents are deployed overseas at Christmas.

The day after the party, the parents of three traveled to Cyprus to visit the servicemen and women at RAF Akrotiri, an air force base on the lovely Mediterranean island near Greece.

William and Kate met a boy whose dad is in Cyprus, while his mum posted to Afghanistan.

Her husband said: 'We see our main function as giving my daughter and her husband peace of mind.

The couple said they had handed over a present of a bottle of aftershave for William and Kate to take over to Cyprus.
