Thousands of O2 users stuck offline in mobile phone blackout

O2 data not working as company has network issues

The O2 team has said that it is working fast to address the technical issues and have described it as a "high priority".

Telefonica owns O2, with 25 million customers, and GiffGaff ("the network run by you"), but is also used by millions more who use Sky Mobile, Tesco Mobile, Lyca and TalkTalk's operation. Some voice calls are getting through but all 4G and SMS services are completely jiggered.

OUTAGE UPDATE 10.45am: One of O2's third party suppliers has identified a software issue in their system.

O2 said its technical teams are working with its supplier's teams to fix the problem.

An O2 spokesperson said the network was continuing to investigate the problems.

It's encouraging users to "use Wi-Fi wherever they can".

O2 customers are now experiencing difficulties after the mobile network went down.

"We apologise for any inconvenience", the firm said, after problems were first reported at around 5.30am. Transport information services have also been affected. The outage tool - which allows customers to check if their area is affected - was also down. "This issue is being investigated".

As a result users have been experiencing issues with 3G and 4G services, with others unable to make calls or send texts.

Thousands of O2 mobile phone users have been left unable to access the internet because of a technical fault.

O2 have assured customers that they are working as hard as possible to get the networks up and running as soon as possible.
