Carrasco gets $47 million, 4-year deal from Indians | AP sports

Indians trade rumors indicate Corey Kluber Trevor Bauer could be moved with Carlos Carrasco signed

The Yankees, who watched Patrick Corbin join the Nationals on Tuesday and Nathan Eovaldi agree to a deal with the Red Sox earlier Thursday, now have one fewer trade target after the Indians agreed to an extension with Carlos Carrasco that keeps him under contract through 2022, with a vesting option for '23, The Post's Joel Sherman confirmed.

Carrasco is more affordable than Kluber, though the former Cy Young Award victor is still under contract with what many would consider a team-friendly deal.

The deal will pay him the same $9.75 million his 2019 option had paid, will increase his now-torn-up 2020 option to $10.25 from $9.5 million and will pay him $12 million in both 2021 and 2022. The 2023 option is worth $14 million, with a $3 million buyout, according to multiple reports.

For the cash-conscious Indians, the 31-year-old Carrasco is invaluable.

This year's Major League Baseball offseason has been a time of great uncertainty for the Cleveland Indians' pitching staff, as almost everyone has heard their name in trade rumors at some point.

"As we looked at the continuity of our rotation, we feel Carlos can continue to be a key cog in that", team president Chris Antonetti said.

Carrasco went 17-10 with a 3.38 ERA in 30 starts last season, finishing with a career-high 231 strikeouts as the Indians became the first team to have four pitchers reach 200 strikeouts in the same season. Two years later, the Indians had him pitch part of the season in the bullpen - a move, Antonetti said, that was the turning point for the right-hander. Try to get that hitter out.
