DONE DEAL? Man City and Columbus Crew agree Zack Steffen fee

Manchester City are closing in on the signing of Zack Steffen from Columbus Crew.

City are thought to have paid around £6m for the 23-year-old, a fee which could rise to £10m on the condition that he reaches certain incentives.

Though Steffen is not now likely to be eligible to be granted a United Kingdom work permit, Goal's report points out that this is likely to change if he continues to play regularly for his national side in the months ahead. French side Nice, managed by former New York City boss Patrick Vieira, is also an option. Harrison is now on loan with Leeds United, while Palmer-Brown is now on loan with Dutch side NAC Breda.

Steffen is also a United States of America global.

If Steffen continues to be the U.S. number one, he could re-apply for a work permit in the summer should he be denied one upon officially joining City.

With his former Columbus Crew coach, Gregg Berhalter, having been hired as the new US national team coach, Steffen stands a good chance of holding on to the job, though he is facing good competition from Club Brugge goalkeeper Ethan Horvath.

City are unsure whether Steffen will be awarded a work permit and he is likely to head out on loan.

But Guardiola would like higher-quality competition for Ederson ideally, amid concerns about whether Muric is ready to provide back-up for the Brazil goalkeeper.
