PGA of American Headquarters Leaving Florida For Texas

Gil Hanse and Beau Welling design new layouts for Frisco development

The golf courses are expected to open in summer 2022.

The PGA of America will be moving its headquarters from Palm Beach Gardens to Frisco, Texas.

"By partnering with the PGA of America, [North Texas] hopes to develop unique internship and volunteer opportunities for students, conduct research and collect data on behalf of the PGA and develop educational programs for the PGA's 29,000 professionals", UNT President Neal Smatresk said in a press release.

Following months of speculation, the PGA of America officially announced its headquarters are relocating to Frisco, Texas.

Said PGA of America Chief Membership Officer John Easterbrook in a statement: "With PGA Frisco, the PGA of America begins an exciting new chapter in our 102-year history".

The PGA of America is leaving Florida for a $520 million development in the Dallas area that will include a 500-room hotel, a massive conference center and two golf courses that will bring major championships back to Texas.

A welcoming gateway at Frisco's northern border, the upscale development will be located at Rockhill Parkway and Legacy Drive, approximately one-third of a mile south of US 380.

The last major in Texas was the 1969 U.S. Open in Houston. The PGA of America will invest $30 million to build its 100,000-square-foot global headquarters and education facility.

The project is a partnership between the PGA of America, developer Omni Stillwater Woods, the City of Frisco, its Economic and Community Development Corporations and the Frisco Independent School District. Omni Stillwater Woods will spend $455 million to buy the land and build the hotel, conference center, retail space, parking and the golf courses. The courses, clubhouse, practice areas and associated public facilities will be owned by the city. These performance incentives are estimated to total between $52 million and $74 million. The agreement also brings the Senior PGA Championship twice, the Women's PGA Championship twice and possibly a Ryder Cup.

Further enhancing the most culturally significant Championship in collegiate golf, the PGA of America has aligned with a stable of golf industry, business and athletic leaders, as well as college golf coaches who will provide expert insight on the event and one-of-a-kind career development program for student-athletes.
