People aren’t happy about the star featuring at the expense of You Tubers

YouTube Rewind has become less of a celebration of the platform its created, and more of a sizzle reel for advertisers who are frankly being sold a platform that, in reality, doesn't exist.

The video also never addresses some of the major issues with the platform, we haven't forgotten about the Logan Paul fiasco and the fact that The Thinning 2 was eventually released.

Emerging and well-known YouTube stars also showed up in a big way in the year's "Top Trending Videos" list.

Of course, controversial faces on the platform such as Logan Paul, Jake Paul, PewDiePie, and KSI, who were all pretty highly talked about throughout the year, were nowhere to be seen. We asked some of YouTube's biggest names to tell us what they wanted to see if they controlled Rewind. This year, those people include actors like Will Smith and comedians like Jon Oliver. Despite featuring celebrities and famous figures like Will Smith, Ninja, Casey Neistat, and numerous others, Youtube Rewind 2018 fails to capture on some of the most notable events of 2018. These creators are beloved and influential, but most importantly, they're not controversial.

Putting our criticisms aside for a moment, half way through the video the featured creators do highlight some important moments throughout 2018 that positively impacted our society. Though the trio has begun working on the big screen over the past year so perhaps that's why? The decision came after a backlash over anti-Semitic content.

Subscribe to n3rdabl3 on YouTube! This is up from a year ago, when half of the top 10 videos were locally produced. What better way to end the year than to thank those who made it the way it was?

Google Singapore's head of communications, Ms Angeline Leow, said YouTube is a platform for Singaporeans to be entertained and to express themselves. Only difference is, this time the control was in the hands of your favourite YouTubers.
