CES 2019: Nvidia announces RTX 2060, available this month for £329

An upscaled version of the recent m15, this new model adds a 17-inch screen (obviously) and Nvidia's latest mobile GPU, which is likely going to be called the GeForce RTX 2080 Max-Q (but that's not finalized yet).

Here at CES 2019, NVIDIA officially broke it's silence with two important announcements.

According to Nvidia's own stats, the GPU boasts a 60 per cent speed boost compared to its last-gen GTX 1060, and the firm claims the mainstream card even trumps the GTX 1070 Ti in gameplay performance. Previous video cards have difficulty with ray tracing because of how demanding it is, but GeForce RTX cards feature RT Cores that specifically perform ray tracing as to not impact overall framerate. The new models will be available at the end of this month.

NVIDIA is also enabling its Max-Q design for the new RTX GPUs, allowing laptop manufacturers to integrate the new RTX GPUs into laptops that are quite thin. These benchmarks also showed that the RTX 2060 also outperformed AMD's Radeon RX 590 graphics cards by 22 per cent, but failed to topple the AMD Radeon RX Vega, which beat it by 4.44 per cent.

The RTX 2060 comes equipped with 6GB of GDDR6 memory and 240 Tensor Cores that can deliver 52 teraflops of deep learning horsepower, which can improve gaming performance through a feature known as Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS). For the entry-level, RTX 2060 laptops are available, as well as 2070 and 2080 iterations for the mid-level and high-end, respectively.

As for availability, Huang says that the new GeForce RTX-powered notebooks will be available beginning 29 January onwards. And if you pick up a new RTX 2060 or a desktop with RTX 2060, you will be able to choose between both the titles for a limited time.
