"Who would not like to have Mourinho?".

As reported earlier, 55-year-old Mourinho has been heading Manchester United since 2016.

Despite his admiration for Benfica and Portuguese football, the manager sees his return to the game at a top European club.

Despite these honours, the club chose to terminate Vitoría's contract following some poor results this season that have left Benfica in third place and seven points behind leaders Porto after 16 games.

The former Chelsea boss told Correio da Manha TV : "I do not like feeding news stories, but I have no intention of working in Portugal".

"(But) I think I can say that today, I don't have any intention of coming back to work in Portugal", he said.

Manchester United paid Jose Mourinho's £15 million (about R265.5 million) compensation package immediately after he was sacked.

"The other thing I have learned is to respect the clubs who want me and those who don't want me". "At the moment, I'm fine as I am".

United sacked Mourinho on December 18 following the club's disappointing first half of the season and multiple reports of issues between the manager and players including star midfielder Paul Pogba.

Nearly as soon as Jose took his marching orders from Old Trafford last month the former Manchester United boss has been linked with a return to Real.

Despite enduring a testing spell with United, which started positively enough as three trophies were secured in his debut campaign, Mourinho is still widely considered one of the best in the business.

"When you leave a club, you do not wash dirty clothes, when you leave a club, you do not seek to, at least publicly, do any kind of criticism, it's an ended chapter and that's how I always did it".

Recent reports had linked him with the Benfica job after Rui Vitoria was sacked, with club president Luis Filipe Vieira insisting "money would be no object" to a Mourinho return.

They say you can't keep a good man down, so many will be wondering what the hell Jose Mourinho does to be able to bounce back every time.
