‘The Accidental Prime Minister’: Bihar court orders FIR against actors

The Accidental Prime Minister Opens to Major Positive Reviews Anupam Kher Akshaye Khanna Lauded For Their Performance Read Tweets

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a PIL seeking a ban on the trailer of the movie The Accidental Prime Minister on the ground it had caused unaccountable damage to the name and fame of the office of the Prime Minister.

Sub-divisional judge (east) Gaurab Kamal directed the Kanti police station in the district to lodge the FIR based on a complaint of advocate Sudhir Kumar Ojha, who had moved the court on January 2 with the complaint that the movie presented Singh and a number of other public figures in "bad light". And it had to meander its way to cinema halls through hindrances - from political parties condemning it to petitions being filed in court against the release and its trailer going missing from YouTube.

The film is scheduled to release on January 11.

Actor Anupam Kher plays the role of Manmohan Singh while Akshaye Khanna is seen in the role of Singh's media advisor Sanjaya Baru in the movie, which is based on a book by the same name authored by Baru and published in 2014. The film begins with a disclaimer that reads that it is entirely based on fiction and doesn't intend to hurt or defame any person, dead or alive and is exclusively meant for "entertainment". The actor is in top form and you wish that he does more films.

Advocate Maitri said the film's producers have not taken any consent from Manmohan Singh, Congress President Rahul Gandhi and his mother Sonia Gandhi to perform their characters or perform their political life or to dress up in the same way as they have been doing in their normal life or to copy their voice in any manner. The best part is that it shows the human side of Manmohan Singh though not to a great deal.
