Bumrah gets ODI, T20 break after Australia heroics

Jasprit Bumrah bowled over 157 overs in the four Test series against Australia

India have announced Jasprit Bumrah will be rested for their upcoming ODIs against Australia after the seamer starred in his country's historic Test series victory.

Bumrah, who was the star of the show in the Test series, finished with 21 wickets in the 4 matches. "Keeping in mind the workload of the bowler, it was best felt to give him adequate rest ahead of the home series against Australia", BCCI acting secretary Amitabh Choudhary said in a statement.

After the bumper series win in Australia, the Indian selectors have rested fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah from the ODI series against Australia and the T20I series against New Zealand.

India ODI squad for Australia and New Zealand: Virat Kohli (captain), Rohit Sharma (vice-captain), KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (wicketkeeper), Hardik Pandya, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravindra Jadeja, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, Khaleel Ahmed, Mohammed Shami. Mohammed Siraj has replaced Bumrah in the ODI team for the series against Australia, Siddarth Kaul will be a part of the T20I series against the Kiwis.

On Tuesday, the Board of Control for Cricket in (BCCI) said Bumrah was rested and his place will be taken by paceman Mohammed Siraj. He bowled over 157 overs during the entire series. But he has been in stellar form with the red ball while representing India A since July. Earlier in November 2017, he made his debut for India in the second T20I against New Zealand in Rajkot. Kaul has ten wickets in his last two first-class games against Kerala and Hyderabad. He had also put in good performances against New Zealand A past year.

India will face Australia in a three-match ODI series which begins on January 12. The five-match ODI series against the Black Caps will get underway from January 23, and the tour will then end with three T20Is (February 6, 8 and 10).
