Firefox Reality is now the default browser on HTC Vive Headsets

The Vive Pro Eye, which comes with built-in Tobii inside-out eye tracking technology and enhanced computing ability powered by chips from Nvidia, provide more intuitive interactions with visual control systems without controllers, O'Brien noted.

HTC VIVE™, the leader in room-scale Virtual Reality (VR), today announced new hardware, software, and content offerings that redefine how VR is experienced.

The Cosmos seems to be HTC's effort to develop a standalone VR headset to rival the Oculus Quest promising to offer "absolute comfort, easy set up, and will require no external tracking".

"The tools and environments that make up Vive Reality System aim to make spatial computing accessible to everyone, wherever their journey into immersive worlds takes them", said Drew Bamford, vice president, Creative Labs at HTC Vive.

Also announced was Viveport Infinity, a change to the Viveport subscription model. The Vive Pro Eye left us feeling it's geared towards business and commercial use, not gamers. By making the headset prioritise graphics based on eye movements, the overall graphics requirements needed to run VR apps is reduced. That was especially interesting since the only accessory MLB Home Run Derby came with was a baseball bat, and we can foresee the use of more hands-free VR experiences. "Our fans simply operate menus by using their eyes".

The Vive Pro Eye will be made available for purchase during the second quarter of 2019.

Viveport Infinity means members can download and play any of the 500+ titles in the library with no restrictions compared to just five titles a month when the service was first launched.

The HTC Vive Pro Eye will be launching this April, according to HTC. In addition, the Cosmos update will also be released later this year.

As we jumped into our first demo, the Vive Pro Eye walked us through a brief setup where you adjust your IPD (interpupillary distance or the distance between your pupils) and then use your eyes to follow a small red dot that appears sporadically in different locations on the screen.
