Thomas Muller banned for Liverpool Champions League games

Thomas Muller was red carded for his challenge on Nicolas Tagliafico

Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller is set to miss both legs of the Champions League last-16 clash against Liverpool through suspension.

The Germany global was sent off in Bayern's final Group E game - a 3-3 draw at Ajax last month - after a risky high challenge on Nicolas Tagliafico, which saw him catch his opponent with a boot to the head.

Maximilian Wober, who was also sent off during the 3-3 draw at the Johan Cruyff Arena for a unsafe tackle on Franck Ribery, will miss Ajax's last 16 tie with Real Madrid after he was handed a two-match ban as well.

Bayern will travel to Anfield for the first leg against Liverpool on February 19, with the Premier League leaders coming to the Allianz Arena on March 13.

While Niko Kovac will now have to tweak his plans to counter an enforced break for an experienced figure, Bayern have also been stung with a fine as a result of the behaviour of certain supporters against Ajax.

Red Star must pay 25,000 euros for "illicit chants" by its fans, who attended the game at Parc des Princes despite a UEFA ban on the club selling tickets to traveling fans.

Despite the win, Croatia finished bottom of Group A4 after losing their final game to England and were relegated to League B of UEFA's new competition.

Lazio was not sanctioned despite photographs circulating of a group of its fans appearing to make Nazi salutes at the Olympic Stadium.
