Ivanka Trump reportedly being considered to head World Bank

This week, Jim Yong Kim, bank president, shocked nearly everyone by stepping down three years early. When she was in the private sector, before joining the White House, she was vice president for acquisitions at the Trump Organization and she launched her own clothing line, the Ivanka Trump brand.

US President Donald Trump's daughter and adviser Ivanka Trump is reportedly being considered for the position to head the World Bank.

She began her career as a model before moving into business and accompanying her father at the boardroom table on the hit TV show 'The Apprentice'.

The Trump administration, which has been wary of and even hostile toward Western-led worldwide institutions like the World Bank, will now be tasked with submitting a recommendation to the bank's board.

A spokesperson for the Treasury Department said they had received a "significant number of recommendations" and had no comment on potential candidates.

However, some pundits say that the global financial community is not prepared for a non-American nominee at the moment.

According to a long-standing tradition, the World Bank is led by an American pick: the United States nominates the president as the largest shareholder in the financial institution.

Kim was the first American nominee to face a contested election for the World Bank presidency in 2012 and the bank's board has said its selection process will be "open, merit-based and transparent", implying non-US candidates would not be ruled out.

The World Bank Board said it would start accepting nominations for a new leader next month and name a replacement for Kim byApril.
