Ramallah slams Israel's West Financial institution settlements plans

Palestinian Aisha Al-Rabi a mother of eight died after Jewish settlers stoned her car in the West Bank

The road connects the illegal Geva Binyamin Settlement, southeast of Ramallah, to Route 1, a major highway that runs through the West Bank and into Israeli-occupied East Jerusalem.

"The western side serves Palestinians who can not enter Jerusalem, while the eastern side is reserved for Israeli settlers", Haaretz reported.

Israel's Public Security Minister called he road "an example of the ability to create a shared life between Israelis and Palestinians, while dealing with the existing security challenges".

While segregated Israeli roads are common, none had featured a wall before.

The road's opening prompted condemnation from the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO).

Ahmed Mohammed al-Qaysi, a Palestinian driver for the Al-Zaim local council, does not have permission from Israel to cross the separation barrier and enter Jerusalem, like many Palestinians in the West Bank. "This new road is absolutely unacceptable and embodies barefaced discrimination against the Palestinian people".

According to Haaretz, the road was built over a decade ago.

The road n.4370 runs near the city-settlement of Maale Aumium, located between Jerusalem and Jericho.

Some 450,000 settlers live in the West Bank alongside more than 2.5 million Palestinians. It would essentially see the Israeli municipal boundaries of Jerusalem extend to the boundaries of Jericho.

He warned that this road plan could lead to the expulsion of Khan Al-Ahmar village and more than 21 other Palestinian communities.

Its western side served Palestinian drivers, who can not enter the holy city, while the eastern side will be used by Israeli settlers who will be able to reach French Hill and Mount Scopus more easily, according to the paper.

In addition to the soldiers, the IDF said an Israeli civilian also fired at the assailant.
