Aston Martin announces Lagonda All-Terrain concept for Geneva

Lagonda All Terrain Concept will preview the company's first zero emission production SUV

Aston Martin's Lagonda brand will unveil an all-new concept at March's Geneva Motor Show dubbed the All-Terrain Concept. As the first entrant into the category, it will set the bar for what an electrified ultra luxe sport utility vehicle looks and feels like as Aston Martin folds the advantages of an electric powertrain into the family. Like the original Lagonda, it was an angular affair, dividing opinion but never relenting when it came to luxury or, indeed, power.

Lagonda has played different roles within Aston Martin over the decades, ever since the once-standalone British marque was folded into its parent company.

Having made a surprise return to the world stage at the Geneva Motor Show past year, Lagonda will be back at the 2019 running of the event. Where the 2014 Aston Matin Lagonda sedan had a 5.9-liter V12 to play with, new Lagonda cars will go electric instead. Gone was the traditional leather and wood; in its place, carbon-fiber shared space with ceramics, cashmere, and silk, together with hand-woven wool.

At the time, Aston Martin execs promised production cars as varied as sedans, coupes, and SUVs. For now, however, the All-Terrain Concept will be free to emulate last year's Vision and attempt to steal the show in Switzerland.

Aston has released a darkened preview image of the front of the vehicle that shows the clear visual link to the previous saloon concept and a stance and proportions that hints at a sleek body and dramatic profile, inspiring our artist's impression. Having been teased last spring, we already know it will borrow heavily from the design language previewed by Vision Concept.

Billed as a preview of the first model the revived Lagonda brand will put into production, the All-Terrain concept follows the Vision concept revealed at the same show in 2018 (and a sketch unveiled thereafter).

Andy Palmer, Aston Martin Lagonda President and Group CEO, said, "The ways in which automotive brands reveal new product has changed beyond recognition in recent years, but there's still something compelling about the unique atmosphere of a great motor show".
