After winning over the Australian public with 87 points and a jury of industry experts with 48 points, an impressive 135 points overall, Kate has been selected to represent Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019, to be held in Tel Aviv, Israel and broadcast exclusively on SBS in May. Today, the next Australian entrant will be chosen in the nations first ever national final: Australia Decides.
Miller-Heidke sent the crowd and social media commentators into raptures with her extravagant performance, which included stunning high operatic notes which she handled with aplomb.
Miller-Heidke topped Saturday's scoreboard, narrowly beating electronic group Electric Fields.
Australia have ranked well in the Eurovision Song Contest since they joined in 2015, coming fifth with Guy Sebastian's Tonight Again, and second with Dani Im's Sound of Silence in 2016 (she was robbed, tbh). Dami Im took her song "Sound of Silence" to second place, just after victor Ukraine.
In association with the Queensland Government via Tourism and Events Queensland and the City of Gold Coast, Eurovision - Australia Decides was presented at the Gold Coast Convention and Exhibition Centre to a live audience.
BDS argues that worldwide artists should avoid touring Israel due to its occupation of Palestinian territories.
The viewers of Australia Decides chose Kate out of 10 hopefuls to go to Tel Aviv, after her dramatic song Zero Gravity impressed the public.
"SBS respects and supports the right for people to express their views", the network said in a statement.
She ousted a field of nine other acts that included the likes of Brisbane indie band Sheppard, former The Voice victor Alfie Arcuri and even a talented 16-year-old by the name of Leea Manos.
As it stands, Miller-Heidke will represent Australia on in Israel from May 14.
