Jack Clarke collapse: Leeds United release statement and thank Middlesbrough medical staff

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa

Jack Clarke was taken to hospital after being treated by paramedics during Leeds United's draw with Middlesbrough this afternoon.

The 18-year-old winger started for Marcelo Bielsa's side but was substituted at half-time.

The match was halted for seven minutes during the second half, resulting in referee Darren England asking for 12 extra minutes beyond the 90. He was swiftly given oxygen and after a lengthy and concerning spell of treatment was taken on a stretcher to the dressing room.

And Leeds have now released a statement on Clarke's condition, saying: "Jack Clarke began to feel unwell during the second half of our Sky Bet Championship fixture with Middlesbrough and received medical attention".

Leeds, who in their heyday were three-time champions of the English top flight as well as winners of the FA Cup and League Cup, apologised to Derby and reminded Bielsa of the Yorkshire club's principles of "integrity and honesty".

"The important thing is that fingers crossed, the boy is okay and he recovers because he's a very talented young player", he said. "He was taken back into the dressing room, where he seemed to have overcome the problem but he's gone to hospital now to see if everything is alright". "All our thoughts go to the lad Clarke".

Boro had opened the scoring in the 47th minute, but Leeds' Kalvin Phillips rose to the occasion, scoring a late, late equaliser deep into added time to secure a point for the visitors.

Clarke has made 15 appearances for Leeds this season, and is being monitored by clubs such as Tottenham and Southampton, according to Sky sources.
