Lindsey Buckingham has vocal cord damage from heart surgery

Lindsey Buckingham performs at the Wilbur Theatre in Boston Wednesday Dec. 5 2018

The singer's wife, Kristen, has confirmed the news in a statement, revealing Lindsey suffered a vocal cord injury during his operation.

In a post on Twitter, she wrote: "I am sad to say that late last week Lindsey underwent emergency open heart surgery".

Fleetwood Mac guitarist Lindsey Buckingham underwent emergency open heart surgery last week and the future of his musical career is now in doubt. However, the procedure "caused vocal cord damage, the permanency of which is unclear".

Buckingham has a 43-year history with Fleetwood Mac. In October, he sued the band members for the $12 million he lost in Fleetwood Mac's upcoming tour.

She says the past year has been stressful, but she is thankful her husband is still alive.

All his shows and tours have been canceled until he's fully recovered, she said. But despite all this, our gratitude for life trumps all obstacles we have faced at this moment. "As does he", Kristen Buckingham said.

His former bandmates ignored their drama on Friday and wished the guitarist well, tweeting: "We are saddened by this news".

"Our family thought it important to share what's happening with Lindsey with the hope that inspires someone else to seek preventative care. We are hopeful for his speedy recovery".

The legendary Fleetwood Mac replaced Buckingham with Kiwi Neil Finn.
